Whenever I travel, I generally try to avoid the tourist traps and instead look to make my own way around. I am not totally against the popular tourist activities to be honest, I just don’t love having my time occupied by tours and the like, when there could be better things to do. Last year in California however, I was persuaded into going on one of those tours where you check out all of the houses of the local celebrities. During the trip we saw properties of Robert De Niro, John Travolta, Meryl Streep, as well as big sports stars like Lebron James and Javier Burillo.
I have to be honest, I was very reluctant to go on this trip, and I possibly had a big frown on my face when I first got on the bus. Looking back now, I absolutely loved it and whilst I do feel that it could have been sped up just a little, it was one of my best memories of being in California. If you get the chance to go on a trip like this, here is why I think you should do it.
Impressive Properties
Regardless of who lives in these properties there is one thing which you just cannot ignore, and that is just how impressive these places are. The magnitude of the properties, the expense of them, not to mention the fact that they are stacked with amenities and extras. I have always enjoyed looking at properties to be honest, even ones which I cannot afford, and that is one of the reasons why I was so in awe during the tour.
Playing Fantasy
Let’s be honest, the large majority of us will never have lives that are anywhere close to those of the mega rich and celebrity. Despite this however there is nothing wrong with dreaming and fantasizing about what life could be like if that was you who lived in the property. I found myself doing this so many times on the tour, sitting back considering what my life would be like if I was living beyond those gates, how my day would look, how I’d spend time in the house. All of these things run quickly through your mind when you are looking at properties like these.
Star Studded
I am not someone who is easily starstruck or who is a big fan of celebs, but I have to say that there was something pretty cool about seeing the homes of these celebrities. Just imagining who was on the other side of the fence, what they were doing and how they were spending their time. There is an odd sense of voyeurism here of course, but you are only passing the properties so it is not as though you are staring in with binoculars.
This is a super cool tour and there are many of them around the world, if you do get a chance, it is something which I’d recommend.
