The CoVid pandemic has forced a great many of us into lockdown and during these times it is vitally important that you keep an eye on your physical health. I was chatting last week with Mark Hochberg NYU physician and someone who has some great tips on what you can be doing during lockdown in order to stay healthy and most importantly why it is so essential that you are focusing on your physical health during these times.
There are lots of things that you can be doing to stay healthy and here is why it makes such good sense to do so.
This situation is going to really take its toll on our mental wellbeing, having to stay inside for such a long time isn’t normal and it is a real shock to the system for it to happen. We are also going to find it difficult whether we are home alone or with other people and those four walls can get pretty boring very quickly. One thing which can greatly help your mental wellbeing is your physical health and the two really do go hand in hand.
Whilst a great many of us are taking precautions so that we can avoid contracting the disease there are no guarantees that we are going to be able to completely avoid it. We have seen in the last 2 months that those who are almost at risk with this disease are the elderly, those with pre-existing health conditions and those who are out of shape. Keeping yourself in good shape physically has always been important when it comes to the prevention of disease and given what we are going through it is more important than ever that you aim to maintain a healthy weight and that you are doing all that you can to boost your immune system.
Something To Do
We are having to find ways in which to fill our time given the lockdown and what better way to do that than to use it getting fit and learning new things. There is of course a temptation to be lazy and to loaf around watching TV and play video games during lockdown, but in doing that we are only going to end up risking our health and leaving quarantine in bad shape and not exactly raring to go. This is a wonderful opportunity which we will not get again (hopefully) to pause life and find that free time which we always bemoan that we don’t have, to use to get in shape and stay healthy.
There is also the shock factor to consider here, whenever you aren’t sure whether or not you should go and exercise, just picture the looks on your friends and family’s faces when you leave quarantine looking to like a superstar! Use this time to focus on your physical health, and stay safe.
