Clogged drains and kids go hand in hand. If you have small children, you will already know that they have a wonderful skill for finding new and interesting objects to shove down the trains.

If you’re expecting your first, then good luck to you. Perhaps some of these tips on how to prevent clogged drains will help you from developing a first name relationship with your local drain cleaner.

Drain Screens Help Prevent a Clogged Drain

It may sound simple but installing drain screens for all of your drains is a great way to start. By reducing the space available for large clogging materials to get through, you are minimizing the risk of clogged drains.

Of course, this doesn’t mean kids won’t find a way to lever those things out of position the minute your back is turned, but it is a deterrent that acts as a solid first line of defense.

You can find drain screens for all manner of drains from bathrooms and showers, to kitchens and floor spaces both inside and out.

Prevent a Clogged Drain With Scheduled Checks

The best defense is a solid offense. If you are worried about your kids clogging up your drains, then you should look to schedule a regular or frequent checkup. Using drain cleaning services, you will remove any potential blockages that could cause a large clog in the future.

A blocked drain is not always the result of a single item, but rather a build up over time. By regularly cleaning your drains you are reducing the risk of foreign object build up.

Teach Kids Not to Put Dishes in the Kitchen Sink

This might seem to go against one of the basic life lessons kids are taught. When the meal is over, and plates are cleaned away, they go into the kitchen sink – or the dishwasher.

However, with kids, this is a recipe for kitchen drainage issues. Kids are easily distracted and do not always think of the bigger picture. By filling the sink or washer with plates not properly scraped or void of food and such, you run the risk of blocking drains with good intentions.

By having them place plates on the kitchen side, you will catch any drain clogging items before they cause any mischief.

You Cannot Always Prevent Clogged Drains

Let’s be honest. You cannot always prevent clogged drains from happening. There could be any number of reasons or accidents that cause them. The trick is to do your best to reduce the chance of them happening.

It is no different from any other aspect of life, from housekeeping to lifestyle and diet. The key thing is good intentions and doing things that are in the long-term best interest of your house, your family and your wallet.
