Common Beauty Myths Busted

By admin / March 19, 2018

If you have been hearing some beauty myths for a while, it would be easy to believe them. Most of these myths are not even true but we believe that they are. Here are some of the most common myths busted:

Smiling Causes Crow’s Feet

This myth is not entirely true because squinting causes crow’s feet. If you have fair skin that is thin, you will start seeing wrinkles around your eyes earlier. Does your mother have crow’s feet?

You also have an increased risk of getting them if she does. You can delay the onset of eye wrinkles by protecting yourself from the sun and avoiding squinting.

To prevent crow’s feet, you should wear sunglasses to guard your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. If you are always squinting even inside the house, you should consider getting glasses because you have an eye problem. Moreover, you should use a moisturizing eye cream to keep the skin around the eyes supple. If you already have crow’s feet and other facial wrinkles, you might want to visit a cosmetic surgery clinic such as Julio Garcia MD Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic for a facelift procedure.

You can Shrink Your Pores Permanently

Once your pores expand due to sun exposure and constant clogging, you cannot do anything to reduce their size. Genetics also determine your pore size and if your sebaceous glands are active, your pores will appear bigger. Make sure that you take good care of your skin if you do not want enlarged pores.

To make your pores look smaller, you should use skin products with retinol or salicylic acid to remove the dead cells that are clogging them. Do you have oily skin? You should use blotting papers to get rid of excess oil throughout the day because the longer it sits on your skin, the more it clogs your pores and enlarges them.

If the size of your pores is frustrating, you should consider micro needling, which is a process that triggers your skin to produce collagen and firms up your pores.

Lack of Sleep Results in Dark Circles

Lack of sleep does not cause permanent dark circles under your eyes. However, it might cause temporary dark circles. Deep-set eye sockets and darker pigmentation below the eyes are things that you can inherit from your parents. Your daily habits can also cause dark under eye circles: aggressive rubbing of the eyes and sun damage.

If you want to prevent dark circles or make them look better, you should start wearing sunglasses to protect the sensitive under eye skin from sun damage. You should also start applying creams with vitamins A, K, or C to thicken this skin and make your blood vessels less visible.

Removing Skin Tags Causes More to Grow

Some people believe that if you remove a skin tag, more will grow in its place. This is not true but the one that you remove might grow back. Skin tags usually run in families and if your skin is prone to them, you will develop more whether you remove the present ones or not.

Skin tags tend to appear where skin rubs against clothing or itself. This is mostly around the breasts, underarm, and neck. You should know that if you have more than thirty skin tags, you are more likely to develop diabetes. You should see a dermatologist if you want help dealing with these annoying growths.

You have probably been hearing the above beauty myths since birth but now you know that they are not 100 percent true. Hopefully, this article has been helpful in demystifying them.
