When you think of a vacation, you usually picture a relaxing week on the beach with a margarita in your hand. You’ve probably never thought about visiting Seattle, Washington for a nice getaway, right? Known for its cooler and misty weather, Seattle actually holds plenty of amazing attractions and reasons to make this beautiful city your next vacation destination.

1. Eco-Friendly Culture

One of the most notable things about Seattle is how environmentally conscious the residents and businesses are there. The West coast leads the United States in practicing sustainability and becoming more eco-friendly.

It’ll be difficult to find single use plastic here. Don’t be surprised to see separate bins for recyclables and compost either. By taking a vacation in Seattle, you could contribute to reducing your carbon footprint when following these practices.

2. Legal Marijuana

While the legality of marijuana is slowly being approved across the country, you can find a lot of this adult recreational activity on the West coast. The state of Washington legalized the substance on December 6, 2012 for adults to enjoy responsibly.

So, while you may not be able to relax on a tropical beach, you can definitely find some kind of relaxation while visiting Seattle.

3. Enjoy the Best Coffee

You’ve heard of Starbucks. Did you know that the enormous coffee chain started right in Seattle? That must say something about the coffee culture there!

If you’re a caffeine-lover who depends on coffee in their diet, then you are doing yourself a disservice by not visiting Seattle and enjoying a delicious cup of freshly brewed coffee.

You can even walk through Pike Place Market (which one of Starbucks’ coffees is named after) while sipping on your roast of choice.

4. Whale Watching

Spend an afternoon admiring some of the most majestic creatures that nature has to offer. Whether you take the ferry across Puget Sound or enjoy a whale watching tour, you can see the gorgeous and humongous orcas swimming and playing in the Pacific Ocean.

5. Eat Incredible Food and Sip on Delicious Drinks

Since Seattle is located right on the coast, seafood plays a large part in the local diet. You can definitely expect to see oysters, salmon, and tuna on restaurant menus. Enjoy a happy hour with fresh oysters and a glass of wine.

Or visit one of the 300+ breweries in the Seattle area and sip on a perfectly brewed beer. If wine is more your style, you can visit one of over 60 vineyards in the state to try more west coast wine.

Seattle has a little something for everyone. It’s thriving with culture, art, and nature. If you don’t mind a little bit of rain, you’ll have an amazing time in Seattle, Washington.
