Choosing the Right Lasers for your Spa Clientele

By admin / September 26, 2019

In the age of self-care, investing in a health and beauty spa can bring in a hefty profit. When it comes to preparing your new business venture, one of the most important decisions you’ll make involves equipping your staff with the tools they’ll need to perform services.

In order to do this successfully, you need to keep in mind the unique needs and wants of your clientele. Each laser is created with specific functions from hair removal to anti-aging, so it’s crucial to choose the right ones in order to best serve your customers. Here are a few of the choice lasers you’ll want to have in your spa.

Hair removal

Whether your clientele is looking to stay hair-free for the summer or avoid the hassle of shaving year-round, offering a laser hair removal treatment is a wise choice. In recent years, laser hair removal has grown in popularity amongst both men and women for its cost-efficiency and convenience.

Widely used in the world of laser hair removal is the Alexandrite laser. This particular laser is commonly favored for its diverse ability to remove hair from nearly every combination of hair color and skin tone. There are endless amalgamations of hair color, skin tone, and hair coarseness amongst your client base, so you should be prepared for each person who walks through your doors.

Skin resurfacing

For those looking to rewind the clock, you’ll want to offer a skin resurfacing laser for anti-aging. These lasers are offered in two forms: ablative and nonablative. By removing layers of the skin, lasers can gradually to dramatically renew skin’s elasticity and youthful appearance.

Ablative lasers, while more invasive, often have higher quality results. From acne scars to dark pigmentation, these lasers vaporize exterior layers of the skin, reverse the signs of aging, and increase the production of collagen. Recovery from ablative laser treatments often takes one to two weeks with a higher risk of unwanted side effects.

Nonablative lasers heat tissue in the skin and stimulate the collagen within as opposed to the ablative laser’s destruction of such tissues. By heating targeted areas of the skin, collagen fills in wrinkles and fine lines, smoothing the skin’s surface.

Nonablative lasers are also commonly used to remove the appearance of sunspots, broken capillaries, and rosacea. While results are not as dramatic as those done by ablative lasers, these lasers can successfully improve the tone, texture, and overall appearance of skin.

Radiofrequency

Many people seek out laser treatments in order to reduce loose, sagging skin. As the body ages, collagen levels naturally decrease, creating this unwanted loose appearance. During these skin-tightening procedures, small motorized lasers emit radiofrequencies in microscopic holes created in the skin. By stimulating these cells, skin is lifted and tightened.

Many spas also offer a combination of radiofrequency and intense pulsed light lasers, or IPL’s. By pulsating tissues, collagen production increases and firms the skin. These treatments, as opposed to surgical skin-tightening, have a short recovery time and are drastically less invasive.

Miscellaneous lasers

Other laser options depend on your choice of treatments offered. For dark spots that come naturally with age, fractional lasers are often used to disperse thousands of microscopic streams of light targeting individual blemishes.

For impurities found deep in the layers of the skin, erbium and CO2 lasers are used. The CO2 laser is an ablative laser and removes a layer of the skin treatment, as opposed to erbium lasers which can be used in a less invasive, nonablative manner.

When the time comes to equip your spa employees with the lasers needed to best serve your clientele, analyzing the treatments you wish to provide is key. When you’ve done the research, decided upon your offerings, and purchased the corresponding lasers, you’ll be ready to provide your clientele with the highest quality treatments on the market.
