What Are the Various Types of Learning Styles? What Are the Benefits?

By admin / March 29, 2022

Did you know that about 65% of the world are visual learners? Though visual learners are the most common, there are several other types of learning. Different learning styles can affect how someone retains information and what style of instruction best benefits them.

If you are interested in different learning styles, we’re here to help. Read on for the three most common styles of learning.

Visual Learning

Beginning with visual learning, we have what’s widely considered the most common learning styles. As the name suggests, visual learners learn best by watching.

There are many benefits of this style of learning. For example, being able to learn by watching something makes things like instruction videos much easier. Even complex subjects sometimes prove easy to grasp by skilled visual learners that can easily follow the steps they watch.

Visual learning can also make it difficult when it comes time to put the skills to use. You may find that you can understand a subject, but that actually knowing the information is more difficult.

Audio Learning

Audio learning is less common, but still far from a rare style of learning. Auditory learning takes place when one can grasp subjects simply by listening to them.

For some, this makes learning a much easier, more accessible task. Informational lectures or podcasts can help them learn hard subjects without having to watch or work to understand them.

Many will learn through audio sources while driving, relaxing, or doing other work. It’s especially effective when it comes to easy-to-digest information.

As with visual learning, though, some find themselves grasping a subject without knowing how to use the knowledge. Because of this, very few people are solely audio or visual learners, combining the many types of learning.

Hands-On Learning

The third style is one that most people take part in regardless of their preferred style. Hands-on learning is one of the most effective ways to learn, often referred to as “learning by doing.”

Hands-on learning was heavily popularized with the Montessori early childhood development theories. These childhood teaching theories focused on letting children learn by using their hands. It’s common for children too young to understand speech or visual instructions.

Because of this, many of us learn through hands-on learning at some point. While we may focus on a different style of learning later in our lives, most learn by doing at some point. Using this style also helps when it comes to applying what you’ve learned, as you’ve essentially already applied it!

The Different Types of Learning

Knowing the many different types of learning can help us to learn more effectively. By focusing on a style that we know will help us understand what we’re learning, we can improve our education styles and ability to learn. From audio learning to reading and writing notes, there are ways for everyone to improve their learning.
