Lisa Cannon MD – Taking Care of Your Health During CoVId-19

By admin / June 30, 2020

During this global pandemic it has never been more important to make sure that you are doing everything that you can to look after your health. There are two reasons for this being an important time to look after yourself, the first is that with a virus sweeping the world it makes perfect sense that we are all keeping ourselves in the best health possible. The second is that being on lockdown for such a long time means we are not burning the calories that we normally would, simply by moving from A to B as we do in our normal lives, so we need to replace that.

We spoke to the brilliant Lisa Cannon MD, and good friend of the site, to give us some tips on how you can take care of your health.

Water and Sunshine

The fact that we are on lockdown of course means that we are not going to be going out as much and that is going to have a big impact on us regarding our skin health and our ability to absorb nutrients from the sun. Make sure therefore that you are taking every opportunity, or as many opportunities as you are allowed, to get out into the sunshine and drink in that vitamin D. Another key to making sure that you remain healthy is drinking enough water. This may sound simple but so many fail to do it and the results can be damaging to health.

Exercise

As we are not burning those calories that we normally would be, it is essential that we are doing something to keep them burning, and that means doing some exercise. Now as we are on lockdown then we have to get creative with the way in which we exercise but the great news is that there are loads of ways that you can burn calories. Most of us have the chance to get out once per day and do some exercise so we have to make the most of that. In the home you can look to YouTube videos where there are loads of work outs, or you can do some HIIT exercises in a small space in the home without even needing equipment.

Diet

Given that we cannot go out there is a very real temptation to do little and veg out on the sofa eating junk, this is a temptation which you must ensure that you avoid. The more junk that you eat, especially given the fact that we are not burning so many calories right now, means that you are only going to put on weight and be a very unhealthy version of yourself. Take this opportunity to lose weight and build some muscle so that when all of this is over you will be fighting fit and in great shape.

Keep it simple, focus on your mental wellbeing as well as your physical wellbeing during this difficult time, it will all be over soon.
